I suppose, but in the case of a long-term injury replacement you're presumably making the change manually regardless, since you have to call up a minor leaguer, etc. It's only an issue for very brief injuries or days off due to fatigue, where many players would prefer for the game to handle it automatically.

One, it's only a cascade effect if you set it up that way, and it's rare that someone would actually want to do that. Two -- and more fundamentally -- it would only be an option, of course. You don't think it's realistic for a team's depth chart to work in the way I described in the OP? That's fine, don't set up your depth chart that way. But I
have seen it happen in real life, and I don't see why
my depth chart should be hobbled.
