A'S LIMP NORTH WITH 10 GAME LOSING STREAK
Spring training did not finish well for the Philadelphia Athletics, who lost their last 10 games in a row and finish the spring tied with Washington for the worst record in the American League. The Grapefruit season ended with an 8-1 drubbing at the hands of the Senators. Only the struggling Brooklyn Dodgers at 6-18 finished with a worse mark.
It is pitching that is killing the club. Three of the 5 starters had era's over 6.00 and the two counted on to anchor the rotation were awful. Bill Coon was dreadful, allowing 17 earned runs and 25 hits in 20 innings work while George Dill was even worse, surrendering 35 hits and 19 earned runs in 23 innings of action.

PRIEST PITCHES MAPLE LEAFS TO WIN
Philadelphia Athletics top prospect Tom Priest had a much better second start in comparison to his Eastern League debut. Priest allowed just 5 hits and 2 runs over 8 and a third innings to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 6-2 victory over the Jersey City Skeeters in Class AA action. The 23 year old evened his record this season at 1-1. Priest was shelled for 13 hits and 10 runs in his Class AA debut last week.
