That's why I said this -
If you have a stud MR and turn him into an SP, he should "lose" some of his ratings, at least temporarily. He could get them back over a period of time as in normal development.

Not trying it and not being able to try are two different things. In this case it would be fair because every GM could try it if he so desired.
That's like saying it isn't fair that team A is stealing more bases than the other teams. Nothing stopping other GM's from increasing the stolen base attempts.
