It's all controlled by the stats, so nothing can be done.
As their stats change so will their ratings. The ratings chips just fall where they fall based on overall Stats 1871-2014 and a players personal contribution to those. It takes about 200-400 games played at a specific position to get real good ratings.
If these players have incorrect stats they should be fixed though,
Otherwise the ratings "are what we thought they were".
For instance Yan Gomes was a very pedestrian to poor catcher statswise his first 94 games at the position. His last 126 were better which improved his ratings. If he keeps it up his ratings will increase further. If he does not, well then there it is. Historical requires a player to prove it over time.
If you use 1-year recalc you'll get ratings weighted more to 2014, the default 3-year will include ratings based on 2012, 2013 and 2014.
