I always start in 1871 with all real Players and all real Teams. I have never tried switching from Fictional to Historical mid-stream. There is no in game Team File pre 1871 which is why you get all the IND's. Nowhere for the Players to go that the game knows about.

Actually, no, and I apologize if I was vague. I wanted to import the players according to your revised timeline (above) and have them play in a fictional league through 1900 and until the rookies imported. Then import 1901 as a HISTORIC LEAGUE without players, transfer the rosters and continue with the DB. (This is a bit shortened to avoid too much detail). As best I can tell, players import historically when TEAM ID's match up. Those who were not designated would be FA and hopefully sign with a ML club or go to a lesser or minor league. Crazy maybe, but that was what I was trying to do.
Does this make what I was asking any clearer? Can you help me? I have a bad case of OOTP!
