You may want what i do. Age 35 every player no longer on recalc i manualy decrease i do the same at 38. Then retire any non star at 41. I still have a few goofy players, mostly pitchers who win 250 games before age 35. Its a bit of work every off season but it plays more real.
If i get better at understanding how to edit the db then i would add my edits directly to it.
