Case in point, Ben Gallagher..who in my file will likely win the AL Rookie of the Year award. After your initial look at him, you say alright..seems like a pretty good/average player. 3 star rating and potential. Pretty decent in every offensive category (you'll note he's particularly good at avoiding strikeouts). You check his scouting report. Should be able to hit around .250 for contact. Basically a good average Major League player. But nothing stands out that says star.

Mr. Gallagher went on to a pretty impressive rookie season. Flash in the pan? Time will tell, but that's one of the things I love about this game. The overall ratings don't tell the entire story. I've had guys with 4 star current and potential ratings hit in the low .200's and have had guys with 2 stars lead the entire Majors in batting average.

Also LOVE TCR. It's amazing to see guys picked in the 12th round who appear to be low Minor fodder end up having great Major League careers.

So moral of the story, don't place TOO MUCH emphasis on overall or potential ratings.
Prime example of why I hide OVR/POT and make decisions on stats and individual ratings and use AI evaluation thats stats heavy (25% Ratings).

...And disagree that pure ratings benefit the AI buts thats for another topic lol.
