IPA THIRD ALL-DECADE TEAM 2021-2030
2B John Velasco (2026-2049)
The top second baseman during the third decade of play in the Islandian Pro Alliance was durable John Velasco... he played 24 years for the Fairfax Frogs and might still be playing but for a bad Achilles' tendon, which finally put him into retirement in '49 at age 42... in his last season Velasco hit .320 with 20 HRs, 73 RBIs and scored 84 runs. He also made the Tycobbian All-Star team that year. Velasco was a 9-time All-Star and ranks very high in all-time IPA stats...he hit .299 in his career playing in 3343 games (4th) with 4056 hits (2nd), 457 home runs, 2026 RBIs (7th) and 2071 runs (7th)... only the great first baseman Phil Gravelli had more hits with 4260... Velasco was inducted into the IPA Hall of Fame in 2049. He only made the postseason playoffs twice in his lengthy and remarkable career... Velasco batted .269 in 13 games with 1 homer, 10 RBIs and 6 runs.
Special thanks to rocknfire7 for his great Fairfax Frogs jerseys and caps.
