Now please take this post with a grain of salt. I'm going on memory here because I did not write down what my new offer was. (Although $7,200,000 would be a strange amount for me to put in as a new offer)

I'll pay more attention to this aspect of the game next time I get to that point in the year and report back what I did exactly and what happened next. (Of course it will work perfectly next time making me look like an idiot, LOL)
If you joined the team in the off-season, it's likely that the previous AI has already submitted contract offers to the players. When signing with a new team, you may have to "clean up" offers from the previous GM.
