7th April 1882
The Nationals enter their first season hoping to do the best they can with what they have picked up from the expansion draft. The independent league assessors are not expecting to much from the Nationals as they expect the team to finish 7th in the AL table.
The MLB has decided to keep a schedule of 84 games but has changed the league running time so that it now currently only runs from April to mid July before the play offs. This change in structure for the schedule will put a lot of pressure on the pitchers as the league still specifies only 2 starters can be selected. This also means the All Star Game is going to be played at the end of May.
The new GM and Manager had to work the squad hard to get them ready for the new season. This led them to select the following 25 players for the opening day roster.
