7th April 1882
The fans of the Red Stockings are hoping that their team can push on from the last couple of seasons and win the NL pennant. The independent league assessors don't feel that the team has the ability to do this. They in fact see the team falling below at least one of the new teams to finish 5th in the NL table.
The MLB has decided to keep a schedule of 84 games but has changed the league running time so that it now currently only runs from April to mid July before the play offs. This change in structure for the schedule will put a lot of pressure on the pitchers as the league still specifies only 2 starters can be selected. This also means the All Star Game is going to be played at the end of May.
The GM and Manager went to work early during spring training to get the players in shape and ready for the season. This has led them to selecting the below 25 players as the opening day roster.
