7th April 1882
The Boston Americans go into their first season with a great deal of trepidation as they have not yet tested themselves as a team. The Independent League Assessors have reviewed the new team and cannot see them breaking into the top 4 above any of the existing teams. They see them finishing in 6th place with a record below .500.
The MLB has decided to keep a schedule of 84 games but has changed the league running time so that it now currently only runs from April to mid July before the play offs. This change in structure for the schedule will put a lot of pressure on the pitchers as the league still specifies only 2 starters can be selected. This also means the All Star Game is going to be played at the end of May.
The new GM and Manager have put their new squad through its first spring training sessions together. This has given them a chance to build a view of the team and has allowed them to select the following 25 players as their first opening day roster.
