IPA SECOND ALL-DECADE TEAM 2011-2020
The Islandian Pro Alliance released its poll of the best players of the decade from 2011 to 2020. The top players of each decade were selected by a vote of the sportswriters and broadcasters that cover professional baseball in the Islands. Two stars of the First Decade Team also made the Second Decade Team: second baseman Andy Hansen and shortstop Don Nichols. All of the honorees are Hall-of-Famers.
Many of the Second Decade squad will be challengers for the All-Time All-Decade team: pitcher Nicky Engstrom, catcher Hal Stevenson, 1B Jack Elliott, 2B Andy Hansen, 3B Flash Devlin, SS Don Nichols, CF Roy Hobbs and RF Augie Marshall.
SP NICKY ENGSTROM (2010-2029)
During this decade, Engstrom was phenomenal with 20 wins in nine of the seasons. In his fabulous career with the Turon Typhoons Nicky Engstrom sparked his club to 8 pennants and one IPA Pro Cup with a 387-218 career record and a superb 2.43 ERA. Engstrom posted the most wins and the second-best ERA for a pitcher in history. He was a 12-time All-Star, won three Golden Arm Awards (2011, 2013, 2015) and copped the Ruthlandian Rookie of the Year trophy in 2010. In the Pro Cup playoffs Engstrom made 29 starts and compiled a terrific14-5 mark with a superb 2.18 ERA. He retired at age 40 and was installed in the Islandian Pro Alliance Hall of Fame in 2030.
