PWBL 1949 World Series

The PWBL World Series matchup has been set for 1949 and starts now!

The AL representative will be the mighty Yankees from New York who reached the Series on the strength of the best pitching staff in baseball, allowing just 601 runs. Outlasting the Red Sox on the final day of the regular season, the Bombers finished with a Major League best 95-59 mark. The offense was not nearly as good as the pitching, despite finishing second in baseball with 165 home runs. Their 769 runs scored placed them seventh in baseball. Yankees offense is led by leftfielder Charlie Keller and his .926 OPS, 32 HR, and 122 walks. The pitching staff is led by the unparalled Hal Newhouser who put up the sterling line of 26-5, 2.27 ERA, and 182 K's.

For the third consecutive season, the St. Louis Cardinals will be the senior circuit's entrant. Although their final mark of 92-62 was not the best in baseball, they were quite arguably the best team in baseball, ranking third in runs scored with 833 and second in runs allowed with 629. The Cards offense was led by future Hall of Famer Stan Musial. Donora, Pennsylvania's favorite son hit .327 with 44 doubles, 7 triples, 24 home runs, and 126 RBI's and will most likely cruise to his first PWBL NL MVP award. The pitching staff was led once again by 1948 NL Cy Young winner Howie Pollett who actually had a better season in '49 going 21-7 with a 2.61 ERA and 18 complete games.

With the matchup set and the team's introduced, let's play the games!
