The fans of the Baltimore Orioles had to sit through another up and down season this year as the team again failed to push to hard for the AL Pennant. Their favourites finished the season with a record of 42 and 42 to claim second place in the AL table 6 behind the eventual winners. This record was compiled by mainly playing average ball all year with only June being an outstanding month with 9 wins.
The team finished the regular season with a 3-7 loss to the Philadelphia Athletics followed by a 2-1 home series win against the St Louis Brown Stockings 4-3, 6-4 and 6-7
The star's of the show this year were First Baseman Dan Brouthers and pitcher Stump Wiedman.
While most of the batting struggled to find any consistent form Brouthers had an excellent season. Brouthers collected 90 hits from 263 at bats in 71 games. He also managed to collect 44 runs and 41 RBI's for an average of .342 for the season.
Wiedman was again solid all season from the mound as he picked up his first 20 win season. He pitched 347.1 innings in 43 games to win 21 of them. He gave up 366 hits and 100 earned runs for an ERA of 2.59 on the year.
