The fans of the White Stockings are again celebrating another NL pennant. It seems to have become an annual holiday in Chicago over the last few years as they pick up pennant number 8 and the fourth on the trot. The team did this with a steady September as they picked up 7 wins from the 13 games played. They now sit top of the NL table 7 games clear of the Red Stockings. The fans will now be making their plans for the play off games as it has been confirmed they will face the Cleveland Blues for a third season running. They currently lead the contest 2-0 and they hope this will continue to 3-0 once the regular season is finished and the play offs have been played.
The pitching was the difference between a winning and a losing month in September. The star on the mound was veteran Jim Britt. Britt picked up 4 wins from his 7 games as he pitched 60 innings. He gave up 76 hits and 24 earned runs for an ERA of 3.60. These figures earned him the NL Pitcher of the Month award. The team gave up 58 runs during the month
The form of the batting dipped a little in September as they scored 53 runs. The batter with the best form was Centre Fielder Pete Hotaling. Hotaling started all 13 games and picked up 16 hits in 55 at bats. He scored 6 runs and 5 RBI's for an average of .291
Gene Kimball returned from injury early in the month.
