I haven't changed any of the financial settings, this is everything right out of the box. It feels as if there is something seriously wrong with the financial model here and it has made the game completely unplayable.

The AI will tend to spend their money if they have it. If you would like to send your league financial report (in league reports -> financial report), we can have a look through to see why teams are spending too much money.
