Let me know if anyone else is having this issue.
Basically, a lot of premier free agents seem to overprice themselves and refuse to negotiate until the preseason and end up on ridiculously short deals. For instance, just in the first offseason of my last game, Heyward ended up on a 2/$23m contract coming off a 7.5 WAR season (he demanded 7/$260m in the offseason), and Bautista ended up on a on a 1/$7m deal after leading the league in OPS. It's more of a problem for relievers, who seem to demand money that dwarfs the Papelbon deal and end up on one year deals. Not quite a bug, but seems very unrealistic.
I have not messed with the financial settings in any way.
