August 2024 Award Winners
Delaware Conference Monthly Awards
Javier Domínguez Winner in August: The Batter of the Month honoree for August in the Delaware Conference is Milford Clippers center fielder Javier Domínguez. He showed no mercy as he finished the month with a .348 batting average, 7 home runs, 25 RBIs, and 27 runs scored. For the season Domínguez is batting .284 with 156 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 91 times and batted in 98.
Salazar Named Top DEConf Hurler: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Mariano Salazar still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in August. The 26-year-old starter for Milford was named Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 4 wins and no losses with 37 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.14 ERA in 42 innings of work. Over the season Salazar has thrown 199.2 innings and dished out 193 strikeouts with a 14-4 mark and a 2.66 ERA.
High on the Hit Parade, Martínez Voted #1 Rookie: In August Wilmington first baseman Alonso Martínez was named Rookie of the Month in the Delaware Conference. Last month Martínez posted a .248 average with 28 hits, 9 home runs and 20 RBIs. To date Martínez has chalked up a .283 average with 38 home runs, driven in 105 runs and scored 86 times.
MarVa Conference Monthly Awards
MVConfs's Best Batter Announced: August was an outstanding month for Virginia Beach catcher Michael Shoemaker and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month award. Shoemaker compiled a .354 batting average and .387 on-base percentage for the month. In 24 games he piled up 35 hits, 10 home runs, 31 RBIs and 16 runs scored. This year Shoemaker is hitting .303 with 141 hits, 28 home runs, 96 RBIs and has scored 60 runs.
MVConf Top Pitcher in August: Kennerley: "The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we might have to start inviting him out with us after the games." Rhys Kennerley put together a very solid month to take home the MarVa Conference's top pitching honor in August. The 24-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In 13 relief appearances he raked in 5 saves and 11 strikeouts in 13 innings as he put together his 5-0 record and 1.38 ERA. Kennerley has 6 saves this year. In 41 relief appearances he has tossed 42.2 innings, fanned 29, and given up 11 walks with a 7-1 record. The Virginia Beach reliever has recorded a 2.32 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .234 when he is on the mound.
MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: Kevin Clark earned August's Rookie of the Month honors in the MarVa Conference for last month's performance. The boyish Annapolis right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Clark hit .367 with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. A look at his current stats shows Clark with a .327 average, 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He has played in 47 games.

Standings as of September 1, 2024
Southern Division:
Current Leader: Lewes Braves (86-49 .637 / +16)
Projected Winner: Lewes Braves (101-61 .623 / +18)
The Braves have slumped a little in July (16-9) and August (17-12), but have pulled ahead of the rest of the division. The Generals just couldn't get anything going this season. The Braves have a very well rounded team lead by 5 wonderful starters, a solid bullpen and a veteran lineup that knows how to get the job done. As long as they can stay healthy this team will compete for the title, yet agian.
Northern Division:
Current Leader: Milford Clippers (80-56 .588 / +2.5)
Projected Winner: Wilmington Iron Pigs (89-73 .549 / +2)
The Clippers won 17 games in August and continue to hold off the Iron Pigs. This division is the only division that has a tight race and it looks like it will continue that way till the end. A middle of the road team, the Clippers are well balanced with speed, power, defense, and pitching. They will be a handful for any team. Don't count out the Iron Pigs and their offense, lead by MVP canidates Matt Fisher (.295-34-117) and Alonso Martinez (.283-38-105) this team nows how to score runs. If the Pigs can get a starter or two hot this month watch out, with their offense anything is possible. I like the Pigs to pull it out in the end.
Eastern Division:
Current Leader: Chesapeake Blue Crabs (79-56 .585 / +8)
Projected Winner: Chesapeake Blue Crabs (92-70 .568 / +7)
A 17 win month put the Blue Crabs 8 games ahead of the surprising Surf Dawgs and the Barons. Led by Orlando Ruiz and his 17 wins and a powerful offense, 5-players with over 20 HR's, the Blue Crabs have lead the Eastern Div the whole way through. This team is the team to beat in the MarVa Conference.
Western Division:
Current Leader: Norfolk Cavaliers (90-46 .662 / +19.5)
Projected Winner: Norfolk Cavaliers (95-67 .586 / +9.0)
The Cavaliers all but have the division locked up despite an August collapse. The Cav's started out the season red hot and have slowly came back down to reality (Winning Pct by month: .778, .724, .667, .640, .500), but unfortunately for the Senators and the Ports the Cav's were hot enough at the beginning of the season to grab an early lead. They will rely on a 36-yr-old starter (Contreras) and a 23-yr-old starter (Gonzalez) to carry them the rest of the way, as their offense battles inconsistency.
