What exactly do you want to do? i don't recommend having more then 16 teams in 1910 then playing 100 + years you will run out of players eventually.
Starting in so 2000 with 30 teams is doable.
You can also start as a fictional league with your setup. the 1st year players will be fictional, click the random debut and add historical players and then you have to set the database file which is just copying and pasting using ctrl- c and ctrl-v the stats folder header, or whatever it is really called in the db line.You should get RD players from the draft. Keep teh draft set for November timeframe not June. You can delete the fictional players after season 1.

option 2 is to create say a 1950 historical league and the custom setup as a fictional league added to the 1950 game then release all players, delete the fictional league players click the boxes from above and do the DB line then let teams sign any available RD players. Should be good to go.
It takes some time & patience to get it right.
