How do you "sim"?
Hey everyone,
I know we're all on the edge of our seats waiting for OOTP 16, as am I. This game is going to kick asphalt. So to pass the time...how do you sim? Do you play as a team? Do you let the computer play? How do you set up your leagues? Have anything else "fun" you add in? I always let the computer play because with my "rules", I want to see what the world would spit out, haha. Here is how I set it up:
30 teams, "regular" MLB league, with all the world leagues turned on (all have free agency enabled, so the best players go to MLB eventually)
-I move the Brewers to the American, Astros to the National, rename the Nationals the Senators and move them to the American (can't exactly have the Nationals in the American can you?). 16 teams in the American, 14 in the National, both have two divisions divided. Teams are self explanatory, though to not break up the Cubs/Cardinals I put them in the West and the Astros in the East.
-You may have noticed, I don't call them the AL and NL...because in my league I make the DH universal. So at this point...they've totally merged (they have already, but this really makes it official)..they're now the American Conference and National Conference. Inter-"conference" play enabled obviously
-Top 6 teams make the playoffs in each conference. Division winners get a bye, wild card teams play a one game playoff. Conference Semi-Finals are best of 7, along with the Finals and World Series of course being best of 7.
-$160M salary cap
-4 year free agency, no arbitration
-Just for fun, the World Series rotates between the MLB's three main over the air TV networks...Fox, CBS, and NBC (in that order). When I'm simming the World Series..I'll sometimes play the respective networks baseball theme. Fox being the traditional theme (not the NFL on Fox), CBS being the theme they used from 1990-1993, NBC the theme when they last aired it. I even have announcer booths picked out, lol. I'm a sports on TV nerd, what can I say. Also, contracts are with TNT (fits better than TBS), ESPN (they carry the All Star Game), and of course MLB Network, along with the OTA networks respective cable outlets.
OK, that's enough from me for now. How do you guys do it?
