The fans of the Red Caps saw a slight up tick in form from their team but not enough to warrant huge smiles yet. The team had an average month with 6 wins and 6 losses. The team continue to sit in third place in the NL table and are now 13 games behind the White Stockings.
The batting was solid if a little up and down to score 75 runs. The best of the batting came from Catcher Lew Brown. Brown started all 12 games and had 49 at bats. These at bats produced 16 hits along with 6 runs and 10 RBI's for an average of .327. The NL Voters were so impressed they awarded him the NL Batter of the Month award.
The pitching was very up and down depending on who was the starter. The starter that gained almost all the wins was Bobby Mitchell. Mitchell started 6 games for 5 wins while pitching 53.2 innings. He gave up 43 hits and 10 earned runs for an ERA of 1.68. He was awarded the NL Pitcher of the Month award for this work. The team gave up a total of 74 runs.
The team traded 22 year old Minor League Left Fielder Harry Wheeler to the Brooklyn Atlantics in exchange for 30 year old Short Stop Dickie Flowers. While flowers has probably seen better days the fans are glad the team is bringing in experience to try and help the team to win some games.
The NL All Star Squad was selected and the following Red Cap players were selected. Pitchers Tommy Bond, Bobby Mitchell and Jack Neagle and Left Fielder Charley Jones
The players to get the start in the NL's 4-5 loss were Charley Jones and Tommy Bond
