The fans of the White Stockings saw them continue their push for the NL pennant in June. The team picked up 9 wins from the 14 games played. They now sit top of the NL but their lead has again been trimmed. This time down to only 1 game.
The batting went on a run spree in June as they hit 86 runs. The star with the hot bat during the month was Right Fielder Harvey Stovey. Stovey started all 14 games and claimed 20 hits from 59 at bats. This gave him an average of .339 along with 14 runs and 11 RBI's scored. The NL voters decided he should be awarded the NL Batter of the Month award for these figures.
The pitching also contributed to the excellent form of the White Stockings team. Bill McGunnigle was once again the star on the mound as he picked up 6 wins from 7 starts with 59.1 innings pitched. He gave up 62 hits and 13 earned runs for an ERA of 1.97. He earned the Rookie of the Month award for the NL. The team gave up 65 runs in total.

It started with the trading of 31 year old Right Fielder Clipper Flynn to the Boston Red Caps in exchange for the 30 year old Third Baseman Ezra Sutton and 24 year old minor league Second Baseman Bill Fouser. The fans are excited to see what Sutton can do wearing a White Stockings jersey after suffering a few time at his hand when playing for Boston.
They team then traded 19 year old minor league Centre Fielder Leonida Lee, 24 year old minor league Second Baseman Bill Fouser and 22 year old minor league Catcher Charlie Ahearn to the St Louis Brown Stockings in exchange for 25 year old relief pitcher Harry Salisbury
