The reds found the form that they had through most of last season. This has given the fans hope of the team pushing on to take the NL pennant from the White Stockings. The team picked up 10 wins from the 14 games to move to within 2 games of the top spot in the NL table.
Starting Pitcher Monte Ward had another excellent month in Mya. He started 7 games and picked up 6 wins from the 63 innings he pitched. He gave up 45 hits and 12 earned runs for an ERA of 1.71. This was enough to see him voted the the NL Pitcher of the Month. The team gave up only 51 runs during the month.
The batting went on a spree during the month to collect 80 runs. The best of these was Catcher John Clapp. Clapp started 12 of the 14 games for 55 at bats. He managed to produce 20 hits from these at bats for 12 runs and 6 RBI's. His average was .364 for the month.
Fred Dunlap picked up the NL Rookie of the Month award for his .286 average from 14 starts.
