8th October 1879

The fans of the Atlantics are again showing their frustrations and anger at not getting above the last place in the NL table. The team started the season in good form and gave the fans some hope that it was going to be a better year than normal. This then unravelled in August and September as they picked up only 8 wins during the 2 months. This poor second half of the season saw the team finish joint 3rd 8.5 games off the eventual winners. The fans will again hope the off season will bring a change in fortunes for their team.

One change that did happen was the signing of Manager Coy Garrison. Garrison has spent the whole of his career as a minor league manager and the fans will hope he can bring a spark to the team.

If October's 4 games are anything to go by then he may just do that. The team won 3 out of the 4 including a 5-4 road trip win at the Boston Red Caps and 2-1 road trip win at the Cincinnati Reds 10-2, 13-15 and 9-3

The pitching for the year was at best average during the season. The best of the starters was The Only Nolan. Nolan, who is a second year veteran, had a solid year as hit pitched 350.2 innings in 41 starts for 20 wins. He gave up 345 hits and 93 earned runs for an ERA of 2.39

The batting was a real struggle all season as the hits were tough to come by. The batter that had the best form during the season was First Baseman Oscar Walker. Walker, who is in his 3rd year on the Atlantics roster, started 70 of the 75 games he played. This led him to have 303 at bats in which he gleaned 89 hits for 39 runs and 33 RBI's His average for the year was .294.
