1st October 1879

The fans of the Athletics are anxious as they saw their team close the gap to the leaders during September. The team moved to within 2 games of the lead after securing 7 wins from the 13 games played. They now require to win all their remaining games and hope the Blues slip up for them to win another AL pennant.

The batting was a little hit and miss during the month, scoring 61 runs. Left Fielder Paul Hines again showed why he is considered the best outfielder with a bat in the league at the moment. He played all 13 games and claimed 24 hits from 56 at bats. This gave him an average of .429 along with 9 runs and 5 RBI's.

The pitching was solid if unspectacular during the month. The best came from George Bradley who started 6 games and won 4 of them. He pitched 50.1 innings to give up 41 hits and 13 earned runs for an ERA of 2.32. The team gave up 70 runs in total.

Rookie Right Fielder Sadie Houck saw his season ended mid month as he went down with a fractured rib during a game. His recovery time will be 6 weeks.
