1st October 1879

The Blues fans are still hoping for their first AL pennant as the team slowly creeps towards the title. The team had a slightly below average month with 6 wins and 7 losses. They are still in 1st place in the AL table but lead by only 2 games now. They need to win 3 of the remain 4 to be sure of post season play for the first time in their history.

The pitching is keeping the team's head above the water in the race for the pennant. The star on the mound was Rookie starter Jim McCormick. McCormick pitched 63 innings in 7 games starts for 4 wins. He gave up 56 hits and 10 earned runs during these games for an ERA of 1.43. This work saw him awarded both the Al Pitcher of the Month and AL Rookie of the Month awards. The team gave up only 48 runs during the month

The batting showed some signs of a worrying dip in form in September as they scored only 52 runs during the month. The best of the batting came from Short Stop Jim Snyder. Snyder played 12 of the 13 games and had 51 at bats. These at bats saw him clip the ball into space 20 times to score 6 runs with 10 RBI's. His average on the month was .392.

First Baseman George Fields missed 2 weeks of the month with a oblique strain.
