1st October 1879

The angry faces in the crowd told the whole story as they watched their sides end of season slump continue in September. The team could only manage 3 wins during September while losing 10. This has seen them fall to dead last in the NL table a full 10 games behind the leaders and 3 games behind third place. It looks like the team could be occupying the bottom spot for the seventh time in ten seasons.

The Owner didn't waste time once the team reached this point and fired Manager Aaron Compton. The side have still to appoint a new Manager but we will let you know who that is once it has been confirmed by the team.

The batting was poor in September, scoring only 52 runs during the month. The star with the hot bat was First Baseman Oscar Walker. Walker started 12 of the 13 games he played with 50 at bats. These at bats saw him claim 19 hits to score 9 runs with 7 RBI's. His average during the month was .380.

The workload of the season finally caught up with the pitching staff as they had a horrible month. The best of the starters was The Only Nolan. He won 2 of the 7 games he started and pitched 61.2 innings. These innings saw him give up 62 hits and 21 earned runs for an ERA of 3.06

Left Fielder Joe Hornung missed the second half of the month with a sore shoulder. He was diagnosed with a 2-3 weeks recovery time.

The Atlantics made a roster move during the month to try and find players to help the ailing team next season. They traded 22 year old minor league Centre Fielder John Magner and 22 year old Centre Fielder Tom Loftus to the St Louis Brown Stockings in exchange for 31 year old First Baseman Jim Foran. Foran is a solid starter and can still put up the numbers but the fans are unsure the team should be going for experience as he is the wrong side of 30 and will only get worse as he ages.
