The fans of the Reds have suffered a frustrating season in which their favourite players flattered to deceive. They managed a couple of good months on their way to third place in the NL but also had months where the form was not good. The fans will hope that the team can find more form next year. This will hopefully start with a good first year player draft.
The team finished the season by winning their final series 2-1 against the Boston Red Caps 4-7, 3-1 and 3-1
The batting was solid all month but couldn't always get enough runs. The star of the batting unit was 8 year veteran Catcher Cal McVey. McVey started 49 games and played in all 60 for 221 at bats. He clipped the ball into space 69 times to score 28 runs and 32 RBI's. His average for the month was .312 which is about his current career normal.
The pitching was put into the arm of Rookie starter Monte Ward. Ward had a solid first season on the mound. He pitched 476.2 innings in his 57 game starts. This work saw him give up 470 hits and 113 earned runs for an ERA of 2.13.
