The Orioles fans are happily celebrating pennant number 4 for their team. This is the team's first pennant since 1874 as they managed to fight their way back to the top of the AL table. The season saw a steady performance from the Orioles all year with 1 excellent month in June. This was enough to see the team always in front by enough to keep their fans from worrying too much. Up next for the Orioles is the MLB Championship Series where they will face old rivals the Chicago White Stockings for the 3rd time. It currently stands as 1 win a piece.
The regular season ended with a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Athletics followed by a 2-1 series win against the Cleveland Blues 5-2, 4-6 and 3-2
The batting was always doing just enough for the wins during the season. The best batter on the season was Veteran Second Baseman Lip Pike. Pike has been an ever present starter when fit since the league began. This year he started all 60 games and had 240 at bats. These at bats saw him claim 70 hits for an average of .292. This also included 42 runs and 20 RBI's for the year.
The main starter for the pitching this season was Hugh O'Neill. O'Neill has been with the team for three season's but this is the first he was the main starter after winning the job from Cherokee Fisher. He started 49 games during the season and pitched 414.1 innings. During these innings he gave up 387 hits and 79 earned runs for an ERA of 1.72. This could see him at the awards dinner but we will have to see what the voters think.
