1st October 1878

The Brown Stockings found some form again in September as they managed to have a steady month. The team won 5 of the 9 games they played while losing 4. This moved them back up to 3rd place in the AL table 2 games ahead of bottom placed Cleveland. This gives the fans hope they will not finish last.

The pitching was strong as George Zettlein putting up a good performance. He started 6 games and played 8 as he pitched 58.1 innings. He gave up 45 hits and 7 earned runs for an ERA of 1.08. This saw him pick up the AL Pitcher of the month. The team gave up a total of 36 runs during the month.

The batting was up and down as they picked up 50 runs. The batter that showed the best form was First Baseman Jim Foran. Foran had 35 plate appearances from 8 game starts. These appearances saw him hit the ball 10 times for 6 runs and 7 RBI's. His average for the month was .286

Starting Pitcher Sam Weaver was injured mid month with an elbow strain. He will be out for four weeks which means his season is over.
