The fans of the St Louis Brown Stockings have been frustrated all season. The team management seems to be happy to leave special players like Cap Anson on the bench while playing others that do not have the same skills. This worries them as it leaves the team down the table. This year the team managed to finish second but it was shown in September how well the team can play if all their best players play. The fans hope that next season will see more games for the best players.
The team finished the season by winning 7-2 against the Cleveladn Blues before being swept 0-3 by the Philadelphia Athletics 2-4, 3-10 and 3-4
The stars with bat and ball this year were Pitcher Geroge Zettlein and Left Fielder George hall.
The only batter that put up a decent fight all season was Left Fielder George Hall. 28 year old Hall is in his prime and started all 60 games during the year. He had 241 at bats and produced 83 hits for an average of .344. He also scored 33 runs and 31 RBI's.
George Zettlein continued to be the starter for the seventh season. Zettlein started 56 games this year and pitched 457 innings. This work saw him give up 116 earned runs and produce an ERA of 2.28.
