7th October 1877

The fans of the Red Caps are finally celebrating a season of success. The team have won their first NL pennant after 7 attempts. The team led the race from the start and were never seriously challenged as they took the title. The team won 39 games during the year and never had a losing month. The team now looks forward to the MLB Championship Series against the AL's Philadelphia Athletics. The fans hope the team has enough to take on the reigning MLB Champions.

The team cliched its play off spot with a win over the Chicago White Stockings 6-2. They then followed up with a 2-1 series win against the Brooklyn Atlantics 7-0, 10-0 and 1-16

The players that helped the team to the title include Short Stop Jimmy Hallinan and Pitcher Tommy Bond.

The 28 year old Hallinan has proven over the years that he is a solid starter for the team. This year he stepped up his game to produce his first best season of his career. He started all 60 games and had 258 at bats. These at bats saw him collect 83 hits on his was to 48 runs and 23 RBI's for an average of 3.22.

The pitching of Tommy Bond has been a revelation this year as he helped the team to its first pennant. The 21 year old had spent 3 years learning his craft as a reliever for the team before taking the starting job from Bobby Mathews during spring training this year. He started 46 games and pitched 378.2 innings. This work saw him give up 90 earned runs for an ERA of 2.14.
