7th October 1876

The Red Caps fans are extremely frustrated and annoyed by the teams performance this season. The team finished joint 3rd in the AL table and were never in touch with the leaders. The fans are hoping this is just a blip of a season and the team will be back to challenging for the pennant next season.

The team started slowly and then never really got back into the season. The slow start was mainly down to the pitching as it had a dip in form this season. The batting was always solid during the season and produced some good numbers.

The team finished the season with a 2-1 series win against the Brooklyn Atlantics 10-3, 10-7 and 8-13

The star of the show was First Baseman Levi Meyerle. Meyerle started all 60 games and had 280 at bats. These at bats saw him claim 100 hits and become the first player to hit this many hits in a season. These hits saw him claim an average of .342. This average saw him claim the batting crown in the NL for 1876.

The pitching of starter Bobby Mathews was always a struggle during the season. He started 55 games and pitched 423.1 innings from the mound. These innings on the mound saw him pick up an ERA of 3.08 for the season. This ERA is just above his career total and showed that he did manage to have some good games during the year.
