The fans of the Reds gave up all pretence of a pennant challenge in September and are now just hoping their team can do enough not to finish bottom of the NL table. The team saw an average month in September as they picked up 4 wins and 4 losses.

The batting had a solid month with 64 runs in the 8 games. The batter with the hot bat was Third Baseman Bob Ferguson. Ferguson played in 7 games with 6 as a starter. This saw him come to the plate 30 times for 12 hits. This saw his average of .400 for the month. He also scored 7 runs and 4 RBI's.

Ed Somerville picked up the NL Rookie of the Month awarding

Lon Knight saw a better month in September as he put up an ERA of 2.57 for the month. He did this from 73.2 innings with 86 hits and 21 earned runs given away. The team gave up 51 runs during the month.
