Sorry for the delay in responding, just noticed this thread.

In my case, I just sorted the real-life fighters by career start date (I believe the first one was a 1-rated HW named Joe Hess) and then gradually added more fighters (lots of TC fighters at first) and brought them in one year -- in Universe time -- at a time.

I believe I switched everyone to retired status and then made the fighters being added to "Active" and "Beginning" when adding them.

EDIT: Should add that I am still using 2.0, never switched to 2.5 or whatever the most recent version is.
