What probably disappoints me most is the the AI team GM's.

IRL you used to be able to pick up a copy of The Hockey News and within a few issues get a feel of any NHL teams strengths and weaknesses and the teams/GM's reputation if they traded, drafted or fired their way out of trouble. We have a plethora of information in this game - but the AI doesnt get a chance to use it and conversely we don't get it either.

I know who's skills are good via the skater skills page. I know just about every rating for everything going on the ice if I'm using my scouts correctly, but I will NEVER find out what type player Peter Chiarelli's Bruins are looking for for example - even if I go to the teams skater page and scan the same info as my team BECAUSE I know nothing about his or the teams style of play or trading preferences. Now I don't want it handed to me on a plate, but if The Hockey News can get it 75% right IRL - cant I get at least a hint?

This is a simulation that a ton of effort went into, but OOTP has struggled over the years with the same problem of turning statistical numbers into emotional content. Hockey is an emotional game and ebbs and flows along with the players. The game mostly does capture that with a few forgivable flaws along the way.

But the next important game evolution is probably the hardest. The GM is as human as the player, cant we give him skill sets and emotions too? Some GM's fall in love with a player and some hate a player for reasons that matter only to them. When we talk player skills why not the staff too? The Myers-Briggs test is a psychological inquiry which measures the psychological preferences of the way in which people perceive the world and make decisions. Businesses use these tests to determine the suitability of a prospective employee or promotional capability. These are all emotional responses that are given qualified scores and evaluations to prepare a report on the individual. If I swapped those qualities for hockey acumen, wouldn't that make for a quantifiable "number" for owners/staff? Couldn't you then make a profile of Peter Chiarelli then? Fiery? Neutral? Reserved? Cheap? Freewheeling?
Just my $.02
