Fans of the Athletics were celebrating this month as their team won their first AL pennant. The team won 6 games in September while losing 2. This put them in an unassailable lead in the AL table. The fans will now need to make travel plans in October for the MLB Championship Series against the Chicago White Stockings.

The batting scored 59 solid runs in September. The player with the hot bat was Second Baseman John Peters. Peters played all 8 games and claimed 15 hits from 35 at bats. This gave him an average of .429. He also scored 6 runs along with 7 RBI's.

Dick McBride once again showed why he is the premier pitcher in the AL. He pitched 69 innings in the 8 games played for an ERA of 1.04. He gave up 54 hits and a really low 8 earned runs. The earned him the AL Pitcher of the Month award. The team gave up a very low 30 runs on the month.

The Athletics played 8 games in September
The started with a 1-2 loss against the Baltimore Orioles. 6-4, 1-2 and 7-8
The next series was a 3-0 sweep over the Cleveland Blues. 16-2, 9-7 and 6-3
The final 2 games were wins against the St. Louis Brown Stockings 11-2 and 3-2
