The fans of the Red Stockings final saw their team come to life after their long mid season dip in form. The team picked up 6 wins from the 8 games they played to leave them secure in 2nd place in the NL table for the season.

The batting's form finally picked up as the team scored 57 runs in the month. The star with the hot bat was Second Baseman Bill Craver. Craver continued his excellent season with another 13 hits from 36 at bats in 8 games played. This gave him an average of .361. He also scored 5 runs and 5 RBI's.

Charley Jones was awarded the NL Rookie of the Month award.

The pitching of Bobby Mathews saw another solid month as he started all 8 games. He pitched 66.2 innings to give up 68 hits and 18 earned runs for an ERA of 2.43. The team gave up a total of only 38 runs during the month.

They started with a 2-1 series win against the Chicago White Stockings. 6-1, 11-8 and 1-2
The next series saw a 2-1 win against the Brooklyn Atlantics. 12-1, 10-5 and 3-9
The final 2 games were wins against the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 and 9-8
