The White Stockings fans are again looking at a race for the NL pennant as their team closed the gap on the leading Boston Red Stockings in August. The team claimed 7 wins against only 3 losses to leave them joint 1st in the NL table.
The batting saw a strong performance as they scored 89 runs. The star of this showing was Catcher Deacon White. White scored an average of .455 from 20 hits in 44 at bats in 10 game starts.
