The fans of the Brown Stockings saw a solid month in July with a 5-4 record produced from the team. This record still meant that the team lost ground in the chase for the AL Pennant as they fell 3 games behind the Baltimore Canaries in 2nd place.
The batting scored a fairly low 53 runs during the month. The best batting came from Second baseman Charlie Sweasy. Sweasy produced an excellent July after missing most of the start of the season through injury. He started all 9 games and had 31 at bats. These at bats produced 13 hits, 7 runs and 3 RBI's. He managed an average of .419 for the month.
The pitching was the star again as George Zettlein continued to produce the goods from the mound. Zettlein started 8 games and pitched 62.1 innings. This work load saw him give up 86 hits and 19 earned runs. This gave him and average of 2.74 for the month. The team gave up 66 runs during the month.
