The batting for the Reds Stockings managed 71 runs during July. The leading batter on the team was Catcher Mike McGreary. McGreary started all 9 games and had 45 at bats. These at bats produced 20 hits to give him an average of .444 for the month. He also claimed 6 runs and 6 RBI's.

Bobby Mathews produced an excellent pitching performance during the month of July. He started all 9 games and pitched 75.1 innings. This work saw him give up 89 hits and 23 earned runs for an ERA of 2.75. This performance was enough to be awarded the NL Pitcher of the Month award for July

The all star selection threw up a surprise in that very few of the NL leading Red Stockings players were selected.

The NL All Star squad included the following Red Stockings players. Pitchers Bobby Mathews, Hugh Campbell and Joe McDermott, Third Baseman Levi Meyerle and Right Fielder Tim Murnane

Of these selected players Levi Meyerle and Bobby Mathews were chosen as starters in the 10-7 loss.
