1981-82 Offseason News and Notes
The 1981 draft has some top end talent. The
Mets repeat history and take
Doc Gooden with the #1 overall pick. I’m happy the
Jays picked up the powerful
Jose Canseco second and
Jimmy Key in the second round.
Detroit had a ton of picks. This years draft will shape their future. Taking two first baseman back to back is a bit weird. MAKE A DECISION!!
The HOF commitee decided to induct
Don Kaiser as a
Dodger, which is fair, as he played 13 years there. He had his best years as an
Oriole though. Some hugely dominant seasons back in the 50s. At his best, he belongs in the greatest ever discussion. Could not maintain that level though.

Rollie Fingers appears to be almost as dominant as real life
Rollie Fingers.
Willie McCovey has retired as the 2nd greatest home run hitter in history. He was unable to hit that magical 700 number, but 2nd place isn't too shabby. Here is the current list of the top 20 home run hitters of all-time.
A few of these guys look like they have been passed over for HOF induction. Top 20 home runs probably deserves to get there.
Mantle,
Hodges,
Mathews, and
Wilson need 2nd looks.
Bauman is in the HOF, but it looks like i forgot to do it in game. Oops. doing it now.
