The Canaries fans are still hoping their team can win the title. With 2 games left they lie in second place in the AL table 1.5 games behind the leading St. Louis Brown Stockings. They would need to win both games and hope that the Brown Stockings lose all 3 of theirs to win the title. The month of September saw a 5-4 record.

The batting scored 80 runs in September. The best of the batting came in the form of Third Baseman Lip Pike. Pike played all 9 games and had 44 at bats. These at bats produced 16 hits, 11 runs, 14 RBI's including a home run for an average of .364 for the month.

The pitching of Cherokee Fisher continues to propel the team towards a chance at the title. He played another 9 games and pitched all 82 innings. This work saw him give up 97 hits and 22 earned runs for an ERA of 2.41. He picked up his 12 Pitcher of the Month award for the AL with these figures.

All minor league players were recalled to the squad for the roster expansion

The Canaries played 9 games in September
They started with a win and a loss to the Philadelphia Athletics. The scores were 7-9 and 16-4
The next series saw them beat the St. Louis Brown Stockings 2-1. The scores were 16-5, 3-10 and 9-8
The third series of the month saw the Canaries lose 1-2 against the Cleveland Blues. The scores were 8-6, 5-6 and 2-4
They finished with a 14-7 win against the Philadelphia Athletics
