Yeah, but that still isn't going to cover all real emergencies; you also need to figure out what to do when BOTH your 3B and SS are out, and you have to move Bench IF to SS and find someone else for 3B, and the guy you have listed for the third choice there is already playing RF, and the fourth choice has already been used as a pinch-hitter.
1) There are just too many possibilities to make a conditional lineup for all of them.
2) Even if that would fix the problem for the player team, computer-controlled teams would still wind up doing irrational things.
The AI has to be better at simply looking at what players are available at any given time and making the best lineup. Especially when you're talking about in-game situations where multiple substitutions have already been made, depth charts hurt as much as they help.
