May Award Winners

Delaware Conference Monthly Awards

May's Premier Batter Announced: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Errol Williams put together a solid offensive month for Lewes and was crowned May's top batter in the Delaware Conference. He batted .394 with 8 home runs, 15 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Currently Williams has 9 home runs and a .348 batting average.

DE Conference's Best Starter is Scott: Edmond Scott hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In May the Wilmington starter earned a 5-1 mark in 6 starts. He threw 44.2 innings, struck out 24 and compiled a solid 1.81 ERA. Scott has started 9 times this year, pitched 58.1 innings, fanned 34 batters and walked 21. His current record is 5 wins and 1 loss with a 2.31 ERA.

DE Conference's Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Youngster Alexander Younger emerged as the latest Delaware Conference Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Dover deserved the honor, batting .268 with 2 home runs and 7 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Younger enjoy the limelight. Younger is hitting .269 this year with 5 home runs and 14 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .325, 7 walks and scored 18 times.

MarVa Conference Monthly Awards

Super Month Nets López #1 Batter Prize in MarVa Conference: When José López stepped up to the plate in May, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month award. The young Chesapeake right fielder posted a .420 batting average with 9 home runs, 32 RBIs and scored 22 runs. López also worked pitchers for 4 walks to post a .438 on-base percentage. López's current batting average stands at .372 and he has chalked up 13 home runs and 43 RBIs.

Brown Collects MarVa Conference Pitching Award: Paul Brown has made fans throughout DELMARVA Baseball League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 5-0 record. No pitcher in the MarVa Conference threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 5 starts Brown compiled a 2.17 ERA, putting up a 5-0 record, striking out 39 and tossing 37.1 innings. So far this year Brown has made 10 starts, tossed 74.1 innings, struck out 81 batters and walked 12. His record is 9-0 with a 2.06 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .180 batting average.

MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: Steve Kelly earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the MarVa Conference for last month's performance. The boyish Virginia Beach center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Kelly hit .333 with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 18 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. Currently Kelly is batting .269 with 5 home runs and 17 RBIs.

Standings as of June 1, 2023

Southern Division:
Current Leader: Lewes Braves (31-22 .585 / + 3.5)
Projected Winner: Lewes Braves (100-62 .617 / +10)
The Braves took over the lead in the Southern Division with a 4-game swing. Their philosphy of pitching pitching pitching has lead them to the lead. They have 3 pitchers in the top 6 in WAR, lead by their ace Cristobal Diaz. Their offense has been solid as well, but there are still many questions surrounding their injury prone stars Andres Salinas and Leonard Davis.

Northern Division:
Current Leader: Newark Millers (33-19 .635 / +2.5)
Projected Winner: Newark Millers (99-63 .611 / +14)
The Newark Millers continue to play well, but have to be alert for the New Castle Colonials who came on strong in May. The Millers ace Brad Jones is off to a decent start, and the success of Jiminez has helped htem maintian their lead. The Colonials are out to prove they aren't just an average team playing above their heads.

Eastern Division:
Current Leader: Baltimore Barons (30-22 .577 / +3.5)
Projected Winner: Chesapeake Blue Crabs (94-68 .580 / +4)
This division is the most intriguing with the Barons are turning up the heat in June and the Admirals slumping. This division is the tightest from top to bottom with anyone able to walk away with the title. The pre-season favorite the Blue Crabs have slumped, and the Tourists went from first to last. This will be a fun division race to watch.

Western Division:
Current Leader: Norfolk Cavaliers (39-19 .750 / +12.5)
Projected Winner: Norfolk Cavaliers (106-56 .654 / +19)
The Cavaliers played a solid month, and they look to take that success into June, despite losing their last 3 games of May. With one of the most dominating rotation in DBL history, it will be tough to chase them down. There are many questions regarding their offense and their bullpen, so they even though they are off to a hot start, they aren't the powerhouse Cavaliers of the past.
