The fans of the St. Louis Brown Stockings have seen their team fall out of contention for the AL title. This was expected after the way they have performed all season. The August month was no different to the rest of the season so far in that they produced a sub par performance with a 4-5 record for the month. This leaves them rooted to the bottom of the AL table.
The batting seemed to be hit and miss on the month where they scored 72 runs but most of those were in 2 or 3 games only. The best of the starting batters was Catcher Cap Anson. He managed to post an average of .385 from 39 at bats. This included 15 hits, 7 runs and 6 RBI's.
The pitching of George Zettlein continues to be solid as he put up an ERA of 3.17 for the month. He pitched 65.1 innings in 9 games to give away 70 hits and 23 earned runs. The team as a total gave up 71 runs.
