Cavaliers News:
Injuries:
RP Luis Martinez, day-to-day, Torn fingernail
IF Mario Reyes, 4 weeks, Fractured finger
SP Claudio Perez, 2-3 Months, Ulnar nerve irritation
SP Carlos Coronado, 13 months, Reconstructive elbow surgery

Mario Reyes is the lastest of the injured. He will be placed on the 11-day DL after fracturing his finger. The prelimary report says he will miss about 5 weeks.

Other/Roster News:
John Stewart was sent down to AAA and Javier Janchez has been activated off the DL. Janchez will take over in CF. I did shop around Wally Lambert and Jeff Lewis, but it was just more of seeing what was out there than actually wanting to pull off a deal. The one thing I am thinking about, is pulling off a deal for a LH SP. Not sure what is out there that will be make me happy, but I am exploring possibilities.

With the injury to Reyes and the demotion of Stewart, I still had an slot on my roster and really needed an infielder, so Bernardo Velez was called up.

I reached out to some minor leaguer, who plays 2B and SS at a 18 level and is fast, and offered him a big-league deal. Figured having a little IF defensive depth wouldn't be a bad thing. Still waiting to hear from him, which I find rather surprising. I may end up pulling out of the deal, if Velez and Lopez can fill the void. Need some i injury depth, however.

GM Notes:
Robinson Lopez is struggling and now I will need to make a decision about who is going to play 2B. Lopez has seen his average drop down to .200 after a 2-20 week. Velez and Grandados may start seeing some more time. I really thought Lopez was going to be a Newcomer of the Year contender. Maybe he will come around.

Janchez came off the DL swining. He is 4-12 in his first 3 games, hitting 1 HR and stealing a base. He is hitting #5 in the order, as he did last season.

Henry Hamer and Alejandro Diaz have switched slots in the order. Diaz is now 3rd and Hamer 6th. The reason is I wanted to break up the 4 lefties. Hamer could see himself drop to 7th, but right now I will keep him here. He is showing off his power leading the team with 4 HR's. Scratch that I am going to tinker some. Brock will hit #2 (been #4), Diaz 3rd, Hamer 4th, Janchez 5th, Gomez 6th and Lambert 7th. Lets see how that translates.

Its tough to see the numbers on this offense. We are hitting the ball, just not getting runners across the plate. Last season we were #1 and #2 in Steals and HR's, this year we are 6th and 7th. Speed wise we should be better than last season, power wise, I would of thought the same.

Dalton is now 6 for 8 in save opportunities. I am still wondering why I signed him to a long term deal, as he stats continue to fade... speaking of deals, with Contreras and Estrada signed till they are 39, we may end up being in trouble. Maybe I just need to stop second guessing myself, but it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

This should be an interesting week with the Barons and the Senators up next for us.

Around the League:

  • Jeff Lewis of the Norfolk Cavaliers had his hitting streak stopped at 21 games.
  • OF Jose Diaz of the Washington Senators is currently the youngest player in the DBL. Diaz is 20 years and 109 days (at the end of this week) and he has amazing power. So far on the season Diaz is hitting .409-1-6 in 22 AB's.
