Season Review 2027

The Good

C Jose Rodriguez
.288/.378/.493, 4 Triples, 31 Doubles, 22 HR, 78 RBI, 12 SB, 5.3 WAR. The former 27th round draft pick continues to impress. San Diego will be happy to see some of Rodriguez’s power return in 2027. The 27 year old hit a career best 31 doubles and nearly doubled his HR numbers from last season.

2B Chris “Ant” McKinney
.304/.363/.475, 28 Doubles, 19 HR, 73 RBI, 5.0 WAR. 2027 was Ant’s best year as a professional. His numbers were very similar to last season, only this year he cut down on his strikeouts and increased his walks. He improved his BA by 18 points, his OBP by 24 points, and his slugging by 47 points.

LF Tim Elmore
.264/.303/.426, 20 HR, 71 RBI, 4.1 WAR. 2027 wasn’t quite the year that Elmore was hoping for, but that’s not to say that it was a bad season. After last year’s breakout performance, Elmore came back down to Earth a bit, seeing his line drop across the board. But there were a lot of positives for Tim in 2027 – he set career best marks in doubles, RBI, and SB, and a career low for strikeouts.

RF Bernardo Orosco
.319/.463/.468, 29 Doubles, 8 Triples, 8 HR, 50 SB, 6.0 WAR. Orosco missed some time with injury, only playing in 116 games, but his numbers were very similar to last year’s performance. He continues to hit for a good average and is an absolute demon on the base paths.

SP Beau Burrows
16-8, 165 K, 2.12 ERA, 6.0 WAR. In 2027, Burrows set career bests in ERA, BB, and WAR. He also nearly matched his career best WHIP (0.97) with 0.98 for the season.

SP Raul Barosio
18-2, 163 K, 2.07 ERA, 5.3 WAR. Barosio found himself in the unfamiliar role of starter in 2027, but performed admirably. Despite his great success, Barosio has not been happy as a starter. It’s a situation that’s all too familiar to the Padres, as they dealt with the exact same problem with CL Matt Laval. While this might be the only year they get out of Barosio in which he is a starter, he certainly gave San Diego his all in that role.

The Bad

SP Eric Confer
3-8, 109 K, 4.26 ERA, 1.6 WAR. Confer lost his form for the Padres in 2027. Many of his numbers weren’t far off from his regular pace, but the biggest difference was BABIP (.336). Opposing batters were just finding every hole, which led to a lot of runners, and therefore a lot of runs. He seemed to have regained his form after being traded to Seattle. Maybe a change of scenery was all he needed.
