I've concluded that this is the same player who is listed as Charles Brooks in the Negro Baseball Register by Clark and Lester and in James Riley's Encyclopedia. Sidney Brooks is reported by Seamheads.com to have played for both the St. Louis Giants and St. Louis Stars during the 1919-24 period, and to have played the positions noted above. That info is consistent with what was reported for Charles Brooks, just too much of a coincidence for two players with the same surname.
